The Road Map Project, a regional civic initiative aimed at driving major improvements in education results in South King County and South Seattle, is seeking candidates for two Education Advisory Teams.
The goal of the Road Map Project is to double the number of students in South Seattle and South King County who are on track to graduate from college or earn a career credential by 2020. We are committed to nothing less than closing the unacceptable achievement gaps for low income students and children of color, and increasing achievement for all students from cradle to college and career.
These teams of educators, including principals, teachers, and counselors, will provide critical guidance and help identify the “priority actions” that must be pursued in order to achieve the dramatic change in two key areas of the cradle to college and career education pipeline.
Specifically, the Pre-School to 3rd Grade Educator Advisory Team will work to help our region improve outcomes in Kindergarten readiness and 3rd grade reading. The High School to College Completion Educator Advisory Team will focus on improving on-time graduation, college readiness, and post-secondary enrollment. We anticipate selecting 20 educators by March 20th, 2012 for each of these two Educator Advisory Teams. Applicants will be chosen based on the following attributes, and geographic balance considerations. We invite candidates with the attributes listed below to apply, or to be nominated by their peers;
o Current experience in one or more of the following school districts; Auburn, Federal Way, Highline, Kent, Renton, Seattle (Southeast/West Seattle), and Tukwila.
o Fully committed to the Road Map overall goal and use of data for driving change.
o Experience planning for and implementing change in your school, or experience working on your school’s improvement plan.
o Currently knowledgeable and/or engaged in district-wide school change strategy development.
o Recognized for demonstrated success in role as an educator.
o Recommended by their Superintendent, school leadership or curriculum leader as someone who is a skilled change-agent.
o Recommended by their educator organization, peers, or other school leaders as exemplary for this role.
o Willing to volunteer time to this effort in 2012. We anticipate two meetings (2 hours each) this spring, with up to 2 hours outside of the meetings to provide input, and two additional meetings before the end of 2012.
Balance of Educators on Advisory Team desired:
Pre-school 3rd Grade Team: Approximately one-third primary school principals and early learning directors, and two-thirds primary and early learning teachers.
High School to College Completion Team: Approximately two-thirds high school/middle school principals, and one-third high school counselors and teachers. (Note: while our focus is on high school to college, we realize input from middle-school educators is vitally important).
To apply: Complete the application and submit by March 17th, 2012. (Note: No letters of recommendation are expected.) Candidates will be chosen and notified by March 20th, 2012.
