For many growing up in our region, education outcomes are determined by the zip code and the schools that they have the ability to attend.
There are dramatic differences in the academic achievement among students in the northern and southern parts of King County. South Seattle and South King County are home to the majority of the county’s low-income and children of color – 70% of the county’s low-income students and 58% of students of color live in this region. The outcomes for students in this region are dramatically different from those of students in North and East King County, in schools that are just a district or zip code away. While 96% of students at Bellevue High School graduate on time, and almost three-quarters of them go on to enter post-secondary education, less than half of Seattle’s Cleveland High School students graduate ontime and not even one-third go on to post-secondary education.
