Our goal is to double the number of students in South King County and South Seattle who are on track to graduate from college or earn a career credential by 2020. We are committed to nothing less than closing the unacceptable achievement gaps for low-income students and children of color, and increasing achievement for all students from cradle to college and career.

Building the Roadmap
The Road Map for Education Results is a new civic initiative aimed at driving major improvements in education results — cradle to college and career — in the low-income communities of South Seattle and South King County.
The initial work involved developing goals and performance metrics as well as targets and strategies for improvement. The focus now turns to supporting implementation of action plans carried out by players, both inside and outside education, at the regional and neighborhood levels. Results will be measured using a common set of metrics. Progress will hinge on strong community outreach and on our ability to foster innovation and effective collaboration across the education continuum.
The Road Map for Education Results is not intended to be a new program nor an attempt to compete with any of our region’s noteworthy education initiatives. It’s our hope that the project will add value by building strong public awareness of the urgent need to improve education results and by creating a strong strategic framework for improved collective impact.
Building the Road Map — Key Concepts
- Creating a framework for regional and local action
- Taking a cradle-to-college/career approach
- Engaging our diverse communities and constituencies
- Going for major gains instead of minor tweaks
- Focusing on student success using clear metrics — in school and out; academic and social-emotional; student-level and system-level data
